johnny come lately pt2

While the care and feeding of my damn kid eats up just about every possible inch of real estate in my busy bee brain, there are bits left over here and there. To fill it, I’ve started reading mad crazy, like the sad, lonely kid I once was. Is. Am. Whatever.

I’m starting in on the myriad of books that line my shelves, as yet unread but beckoning me with their ever-seductive power. I love books, I can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t a total hound for them. The smell, the feel, the sound of the creased bindings when you open and close it. So much pleasure, in just the book itself, without even having to read a word. I love the simplicity and ease books offer. How each one welcomes me back with such warm comfort, over and over; yet, when I must leave, they merely sigh and say “okay, I’ll wait for you, right here, till you return.” A truer love has never existed as that between a book and its lover.

On the colder but still entertaining computer front, I’ve recently found my way to flickr, youtube and now podcasts. Sure, I’m late by a million centuries, but it’s okay. I forgive me.

I do declare these podcasts as awesome! And rad! I’m starting in on This American Life, and I’ve got some Ricky Gervais Shows, and now some Grammar lessons AND Spanish lessons. That’s so freaking cool. And it’s free. Well, most of it. The stuff I go after is free anyway. I don’t want to pay for anything. Jeez.

Now ends the second part of Johnny Come Lately. Hmm. Why am I calling this pt 2? I talked about being a johnny come lately for something else. I can’t remember what it was.

I might be able to flesh out Johnny and all his late comings into a trilogy. I’ve been having a lot of fun lately “discovering” things.

Beause it’s better to come late than not to come at all. Am I right ladies?

Where are you getting the This American Life stuff from? I’m a huge fan, and love getting mp3s of the show (yeah – I know they sell it on Audible.com, but I am not interested in paying for it, since it’s a free show on NPR, which I already donate to).

Podcasts are great. I subscribe to the TMBG, and FrankBlack.net podcast. I’m looking for more, though. That Ricky Gervais one sounds good.

    Thanks.

Good idea about the lists Tonya. I am currently working on it right now.

As for the Ricky Gervais podcasts, they USED to be free, but now they cost money. I managed to download the last season before they started charging for it, but then I erased my hard drive and forgot to save them. They were funny though. I think you can get some holiday-themed ones for free still, or pay for the other shows. It’s cheap, I’m considering buying them. I’m kind of running out of room here on my lousy 80GB drive. I need a new damn computer or an external hard drive. Or both.

    I need both.
