the bruins warming the cockles of my heart

I am giddy with delight over the Bruins. After a rocky and embarrassing start, they’ve managed to pick up the pieces and are now in legitimate contention for a playoff spot. It’s been an admirable turnaround and I am sick with happiness. Every night they play, they get better. It’s a beautiful thing.

It isn’t like they’re an unstoppable machine, a stellar powerhouse that can’t be denied. Not at all. They just finally found some chemistry, the right players are clicking and everyone is playing solid, basic hockey, on both ends of the ice. The fundamentals, my friends.

I don’t know, I was clamoring for some coaching changes a few weeks ago, when they were in such a deep hole, but look what happens when you trade your top player and find your top two goalies out with injuries. In comes the backup to the backup and he gives the Bruins the chance to win every single game. The team has confidence in their goalie (hear that Raycroft?), so now they’re coming out every night in front of this guy and winning the big games. Mike Sullivan (the coach) kept preaching to them “keep it simple guys” and that’s exactly what they’re doing now. So I guess I’m glad they didn’t abandon Sullivan.

Of course, this being Boston and in particular the Bruins, I am just waiting for the fall, for the collapse. You can’t live in the Boston sports world without being on the edge of your seat. But I trust the goalie, I finally have some trust in the defense and as far as goal scoring? Well, look no further than the future of this team, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Boyes. These two kids are on fire. FIRE ON ICE! haha. Also, the guy they got in the Thornton trade, Marco Sturm? Not only is he foxy, but he’s scoring goals and the crowd loves him. When the B’s are at home and Sturm scores a goal, he jumps against the glass and screams with the crowd. I love it!

Forget Thornton. Bergeron has the best hockey hands I’ve seen. Talk about soft. Talk about deft. talk about sexy. oh boy. I’m dreaming of him nightly, let me tell you. Even someone who doesn’t care much about hockey couldn’t watch the highlights without feeling a smidgen of excitement. Last night Bergeron scored one of the best goals of the year. Gorgeous, I’m telling you. Check it out yourself. And if that doesn’t get your motors revving then I must conclude that you are made of granite.

Seriously, I am not kidding when I say that watching hockey is a turn on. Really, how stupid is that? No wonder I have sexual issues. But it’s true. A good save, a pretty goal, swift skating, nice passes…they get me tingly. Not that I actually want to have sex after watching hockey, but it’s a nice feeling during the game.

anyway, all I’m saying here is you should be watching the Bruins right now. That’s all I’m saying.
