condo schmondo
I don’t get why people waste their money. I wouldn’t buy a condo if someone paid me to, okay yes I would, if someone paid me to, but otherwise I wouldn’t buy one. especially in boston, because honestly, fuck that noise.
right down the street from me, literally right down the street, they are building some new condos, 3 bedroom 2 bath, and they are asking for $480,000. That’s right. almost a half a million dollars for a fricking condo in fricking DORCHESTER. At the intersection of two very busy streets. Right down the road from the Very Scary Area That One Must Never Venture Into At Night. Is everyone in this city on crack? How delusional are they? and why are the idiots living here willing to pay these outrageous prices? If people stopped blindly accepting such ridiculousness, costs could go down and make everything so much more reasonable and livable. But then again, we’re talking about the same people who made a jackass republican tool their governor, so what can you expect. stupid massachusetts. you know what they call them? massholes. hahaha.
Believe it or not, I’m going to start training for a 10K. It’s pretty absurd, as anyone who knows me will agree, but I’m going to do it anyway. My friend Gina and I are doing it together and she’s 100 times in better shape than me, but I don’t care! I am doing this and I’m excited and I can’t wait to finish my lousy 6 or so miles in same amount of time most people spend at work (read: 8 hours). I’m fairly certain my heart will explode the first minute or two after I step into the gym, from shock and awe, but that won’t stop me. I don’t need a stupid heart to get into shape! Screw hearts! SCREW HEARTS.

2 years from now, your neighbors will be >$50,000 more wealthy from appreciation, factoring a 3-5% appreciation rate and nominal principal pay-down. Appreciation is likely much higher in Boston. They may take that money and reinvest it, they may spend it… but they’ll DEFINITELY donate some of it to the local Republican candidate of their choice.
And you’ll likely still be here bitching about the “stupidity” of your now-richer Republican neighbors.
Circle of life I guess.
Now, Brasten, is that any way to talk to Christa when she is so weak and unable to defend herself with her feeble dial-up internet connection?
But I do agree with your basic point, that Republicans are generally selfish assholes who will do anything to get more money regardless of whether their actions are good for the country and society as a whole or not.
Real Esrate prices are equally absurd around town as well. But at least its a very nice town with no crack districts.
6 miles? Not my cup of tea. I do swim 1/2 mile almost every day. It takes 20 to 25 minutes.
Good luck on your fitnes plan.
Marianne-I believe you have hit on one of the definitions of a Republican.
The Republican might argue that is the way this society and economy works. One that helps himself and is financially succesful helps society because he is not a liability. One that can take care of themselves is useful in society because no one can help anyone if they cant help themselves.
There is a bit of truth in that.
Now now, Marianne, no need to resort to the standard democratic style of debate (factless namecalling).
I fail to see how making smart investments in real estate and earning money from them is selfish and harmful to society. Perhaps you think there are better things for them to do with their money, like, say, support you?
Which brings up an interesting point. Who’s selfish, the person who desires to become financially successful through hard work and smart investments? Or the people who think they have a right to take that money from those who have?
Bravo, Brasten. Bravo( “Selfish asshole” Republican hands clapping in the distance… ).
Oh bother.
Oh, unclench already Amanda, nobody was talking to you or about you so save your clapping for your next tent revival, okay?
Brasten, I am only suggesting that when real estate prices are driven upwards because people who have inherent advantages in life are “flipping” homes to make a profit, it causes people who work just as hard as you do to not be able to purchase a home at all. It also drives up rents which causes a whole set of other problems. It is not good for the country and nothing you say would make me believe differently. I certainly do not expect anyone to support me or my family, but I do have the compassion to see that there are people out there who work just as damn hard as I do every single day but due to disadvantages that are inherent in the structure of our society, they cannot get ahead the same way I can. I therefore choose to spend the money I have in the most conscientious ways I can.
On a personal note, many of the homes going up for sale in my neighborhood are being bought by investors. I can say for sure that it has NOT been good for my neighborhood that this is happening. The house next door to me was bought more than a month ago by someone who proceeded to put it up for rent. It is still sitting empty and I sincerely hope the guy who bought it is losing his fucking shirt.
Ouch. Take no offense, Marianne. I just happened to agree with Brasten. It’s not too often that an opposing side gets air time on this blog. Man, I have some others things I would like to say, but, I wont.
The patterns and flow of our economy is mightier than either or any political party. Personal wealth changes from one period in ones life to the other. Hopefully all are experiencing a general upward trend as they become more professional, experienced and mature. It seems to be happening for even poor me. My life is infinetly better than just a few years ago.
Brasten-This semester I am taking the second part of VB.net in the three part series and Systems Analysis using UML, OO methods with the Unified approach.
I’ve got to imagine that I’m richer than several of you put together, and I’m a democrat. Not sure what that has to do with the conversation, I just love touting my wealth. And my political leanings.
first of all I’m not sure how my complaining got us into a Dem vs Repub debate, but so be it.
Brasten, if I understand you correctly, it’s your view that it’s not okay to take money away from those who are financially successful as long as they worked hard and made smart investments, but it IS okay to take money away from the people who don’t work hard and don’t make smart investments, regardless of their financial success? Or it’s not okay to take away anyone’s money ever, whether they have a lot of it or a little? And what does “work hard” mean to you exactly?
If I won the lottery tomorrow and suddenly I had millions of dollars, would I be considered a success? And should the government be able to take money away from me simply because I didn’t work hard for it? And would it be okay for me to become a Republican?
You mean to tell me, if you had the means to purchase real estate, and an opportunity to buy something that you could flip, or rent for a profit came up, you’d pass on it for some greater good? I would do it faster than I could say Viva Bush! and that makes me a bad person?
We all have thick skin and stuff, but I have to say that the “Oh, unclench” posting did seem a little nasty.
And, who doesn’t love a good tent revival now and then? I guess Christa hasn’t shared that the 10-K we’re doing is the Richmond Purpose Driven Life 10-K? With a big ol revival at the finish line? You’re all invited to attend :)
Amanda doesn’t have thick skin, she has glowing luminescent skin that I would scream “viva bush!” to have.
I think maybe we all could use a little unclenching, from the top down to the bottom. haha.
I don’t know what the “richmond purpose driven life” is, it is some crazy religious thing? I can’t believe I’m doing a republican 10K. you tricked me you evil girl! YOU TRICKED ME! with all that talk about getting in shape and being hot and sexy and runners and everything. you so totally tricked me.
gordon’s mother has been trying to get me to help her to start “flipping”, as if that’s what I want to do in my life. Seriously, I have no interest in that, and it has nothing to do with money. Flipping takes too much work and causes too much stress and besides that requires a lot of phone time, you have to call so many freaking people, and I just don’t like talking on the phone.
And yes, that does make you a bad person Gina, a very very bad person.
I was just joshin ya! There’s no Purpose Driven 10K. It’s a joke! I assumed everyone was aware of the Purpose Driven Life book
We’re doing the totally liberal Monument Ave 10K thing, and we get to run through the gayest parts of Richmond together. WOOHOOOO!!!!
Did I tell you I ordered Viva Bush! bumber stickers? They are soooo cool. I just think Viva and Bush are fun words to use together. It was Bush’s attempt at appealing to the mexicans. Maybe I should send you one? hehehehe. So with my bumper stickers I get to 1. Support George, 2. Say Viva Bush!, 3. Say Viva Bush! arriba arriba.
I agree with Christa, if anyone needs to unclench around here it is obviously me, not that I am apologizing for anything.
I’m sorry to hear that the 10K is not a Purpose Driven Life 10K. The thought of Christa running with that O’Steen guy made me laugh all day long.
I like the word unclench. It’s one of those things that I think I am going to start incorporating into my lingo. Thanks Marianne!
And, all is not lost. I am going to make Christa her own special T-shirt for the 10-k. It is going to say “I’m Purpose Driven” – dude. I could make money with that idea.
