g love & special sauce

I went to a concert last week (last thursday night to be exact) at the bank of america pavilion. i’d never been to this venue before, and that is a crying shame, because it’s an awesome place and I am heartbroken thinking of all the great acts I’ve missed there.

Anyway, I saw G Love & Special Sauce. It was one of the best nights I’ve had in a long while. I can’t remember the last time I had fun like that. It was me & neeler. The weather was just gorgeous, slightly cool, not enough to need a sweatshirt or anything, but almost almost. And not a whit of humidity. There was a breeze, flirting with everyone all night long, telling us secrets from the other side of the world. I had a big glass of stella (from the tap!), an adventure in the bathroom stall, and a groove in my hips that lasted the whole night.

the first act was umm, tristan prettyman. I was pretty indifferent to her, didn’t pay much attention, she was easily enough ignored. 2nd up was the john butler trio. I didn’t know what to expect from them. I’d heard the name before, but I had no clue as to who they were or their musical stylings. They were a total jam band, not usually my thing, but put me in the right circumstances with the right frame of mind, and it’s cool, yo. They had a good vibe and the crowd loved them. I danced a bit, but mostly enjoyed everyone else enjoying them. It’s safe to say I won’t go buy an album of theirs or listen to them again, but in a live setting, with a bit of beer & jam band sweets in my body, I didn’t mind them a bit.

the highlight of the show and the reason for my being there was of course g love. never seen him live before, and he was so much fun. I danced all night, everyone sang, and we rode the wave. g love calls his music the hip-hop blues, and I can’t imagine a more apt description. Plus he ended the show with cold beverage. Well, before the encore anyway.

I had such a good time, on so many levels. I really miss going to shows.

anyway, thanks neila, for a grand old time. thanks g love, for being a cool dude. thanks special sauce, for being so special and saucy. thanks john butler trio, for being so jammy. thanks tristan, for being so inoffensive. thanks boston weather, for not sucking. thanks stella, for being so delicious and cold in my mouth and belly.

Speaking of shows, i’m going to see Michelle Shocked in a couple weeks. Yes, she’s still around and still rockin it hard, ahhhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhh…… nothin like a chick with a guitar, belting out some good ol’ folk rock. Neil Diamond is actually coming to town (the man I used to fantasize was my real dad, well, him and Mr. Ingalls) anyway, I cant afford the tix, but damn! i’d sell my right titty to go to that show. By the way, a single gal I know, said this and it made me laugh, so i’m going to share with y’all “babies are the new black” I swear, it seems like practically everyday, I get another email saying “here’s a pic of my newborn” and most of em are onto baby #2. Hey, i’m happy for them, REALLY! but it just seems like suddenly everybody and their cousin is getting preggers and popping a little one out. See, you did it before it became trendy and cool, Christa. Always ahead of your time :-)

if the words “jam band sweets” doesn’t tell you what I was doing in the bathroom stall, then I don’t know what else to tell you.
